Explosives can be many things, like ammunition, fireworks, gun (black) powder, dynamite, flares, picric acid, peroxides, Tri and Di-nitro compounds, and more.
The explosive materials in most consumer fireworks and ammunition may deteriorate even if the products are kept cool and dry. Explosives also can become unstable if subjected to moisture or extreme heat.
Other common components, like black powder, usually won't explode if wet, but could become more unstable after drying.
Some police departments accept ammunition and fireworks for disposal. Check with your local police department. Use a non-emergency phone number, not 911, unless you are reporting an emergency.
