SCRAP METAL: A VALUABLE METAL

A broken bike, an old metal fence post, or unused plumbing fixtures might seem like garbage, but they're not. They're scrap metal, a valuable material.

Scrap metal isn't garbage - it can be recycled to create new products.

Disposal Information

There are many scrap metal yards through the Twin Cities metro area that accept scrap metal for recycling and will pay money for items dropped off. Refer to your local telephone directory for a scrap metal yard near you.

Some county drop-off facilities also accept scrap metal for recycling. The following county drop-off facilities accept scrap metal for recycling free of charge. All non-metal parts must be removed prior to drop-off.

For residents in Anoka, Ramsey and Washington Counties, contact your county solid waste management office.

Scrap metal is also accepted for recycling at many municipal recycling centers and collection events. Contact your city or town for more information.

Some landfills and transfer stations accept scrap metal for recycling, many free of charge. See below to find one near you.
