Acceptable Use Policy for the Rethink Recycling Logo and SWMCB Toolkit Materials

The SWMCB authorizes the use of the SWMCB Toolkit Materials and Rethink Recycling logo for the promotion of waste reduction, reuse, recycling, toxicity reduction, and waste disposal in a manner that is consistent with SWMCB’s policies and programs. These policies and programs are outlined in the SWMCB's Regional Solid Waste Management Master Plan.

Terms of Use

Entities Eligible to Use SWMCB Toolkit Materials and Rethink Recycling Logo without Written Consent from the SWMCB Include: 

  • Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, and Washington Counties.
  • Municipalities within Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington Counties.
  • Counties and municipalities in Greater Minnesota
  • Recycling Association of Minnesota and the Association of Recycling Managers.
  • Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Department of Agriculture, and other Minnesota State Government Agencies.
  • Metropolitan Council.
  • SWMCB Community POWER Grantees may use SWMCB toolkit materials and the Rethink Recycling logo in conjunction with their SWMCB Community POWER projects.
  • Minnesota-based non-profit organizations operating programs in Minnesota that are consistent with SWMCB’s waste reduction, recycling and waste management policies and programs.
  • Public and private schools, universities, colleges and hospitals operating in Minnesota.
  • Mixed municipal solid waste haulers licensed to do business in Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, or Washington Counties.
  • Recyclers, recycling haulers, organics management haulers and facilities, non-MSW haulers, and waste-to-energy companies doing business in Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, or Washington Counties.
  • Traditional media and social media may use the SWMCB toolkit materials and the Rethink Recycling logo for the purposes of reporting on activities related to solid waste management in Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, or Washington Counties, or in advertisements purchased by the SWMCB, Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, or Washington Counties.

Entities that Require Written Authorization Prior to the Use of the SWMCB Toolkit Materials and Rethink Recycling Logo
The following organizations must receive prior written authorization from the SWMCB before using any SWMCB toolkit materials as well as the Rethink Recycling logo, tagline or web site address.

  • Any organization operating exclusively outside of the boundaries of Minnesota.
  • Any organization operating within the boundaries of Minnesota that falls outside the scope as noted above.
  • Traditional media and social media that are reporting on activities that falls outside of the scope as noted above.

SWMCB toolkit materials and the Rethink Recycling logo, tagline, or web site address may not be reproduced on products or items for sale, exchange, or barter without prior written authorization by the SWMCB.
