Open a cupboard in your kitchen, basement, or garage. Read a few labels. If they contain any of these words: CAUTION, WARNING, DANGER, POISON, the products may contain hazardous materials. Hazardous to you, hazardous to your family and hazardous to our environment if not used up or disposed of properly.

  • Don't throw them in the garbage.
  • Don't pour them in the sewer.
  • Don't pour them on the ground.

 

Disposal Guide for Household Hazardous Waste

Refer to this list of some products typically used in and around the home. Unless directed to call first, take them to your county household hazardous waste collection site. Download the Know What to Throw Guide as a reference for when you're not online.

Automotive & Recreation

  • Aerosol cleaners/degreasers/
    lubricants/starting fluid with product remaining (empty aerosol cans may be placed in the garbage)
  • Gasoline

Contact your county for disposal options for:
  • Camping fuels
  • Oil filters
  • Propane tanks
  • Antifreeze
  • Motor oil

Yard & Garden

  • Bug spray
  • Charcoal lighter fluid
  • Fertilizer with weed killer
  • Insect/roach/ant killer
  • Pool chemicals
  • Rodent bait
  • Weed killer

Household Items

Household products are hazardous if they are flammable, combustible, corrosive, toxic or reactive. A product's label provides a quick and easy way to judge the product's hazard level or the type of hazard it poses.
