YWCA of Minneapolis reached over 9,000 members at their Downtown and Midtown locations through a series of educational events including green art displays, green ideas contest, Hennepin County educational handouts, newsletter articles, and web links. However, both locations focused their waste reduction activities at their Children’s Centers where they reached over 124 low income families about waste reduction throughout their year programming. Education included parent classes with presentations and hands-on activities including plant boxes, composting and field trips on waste issues. In addition, 40 youth created a recycling and clothing collection program at their center. The YWCA will continue their parent programming and maintain their classroom recycling and compost bins.
