Village in Phillips
Thirty neighborhood youth learned about composting and gardening through hands-on projects and educational activities. Youth built two demonstration composters, a worm composter, and a composter made of wooden palettes. Students from Center School met twice weekly over 18 weeks to learn about waste reduction and environmental awareness. They built a prototype outdoor composter and will begin composting kitchen and yard waste from the school. Thirty households have ordered composters, and three community composters have been built, one for each block of the designated service area. Twenty families ordered kitchen compost buckets, and youth will cart their compost to the community composters on a weekly basis.
