ECFE staff participated in recycling and waste reduction training by Ramsey County staff on waste reduction, recycling and household hazardous waste and non-toxic alternatives. ECFE staff at 12 different sites and the home visitors each created a lesson plan using the Environmental Education Toolkit for Early Childhood Family Education Programs to present recycling and waste reduction information to parents in their classes and home visits. ECFE families participated and engaged in hands on classroom activities provided to both parents and children that can be replicated at home. For example, parents received a recycled bottle and made a cleaning solution and children had containers set up in the classroom to practice sorting materials to be recycled.
