Southern Valley Alliance for Battered Women
Seven staff and 16 volunteers were trained in waste issues with a focus on junk mail reduction. They, in turn, worked with 19 women seeking battered women’s support group assistance to become “experts” on junk mail issues. Together these staff, volunteers, and women helped spread information about controlling junk mail to thousands of people in Carver County through displays at the Carver County Government Center and County Fair, and through information that ran in all of the Carver County newspapers. 398 junk mail cards were filled out and returned to Southern Valley’s display “mailbox.”
