Southeast Seniors Block Nurse Program
Workshops on reducing household hazardous waste and reducing junk mail were presented to over 100 seniors and youth at local senior apartments buildings. A newsletter was sent to over 6,000 residents discussing predatory mail, and a junk mail tree was completed by a group of 7th and 8th grade students in partnership with a senior high-rise building. Brochures on HHW disposal were given to 71 seniors, and 15 digital thermometers were distributed. A Button Battery Box was placed in one of the senior high-rise buildings.
In 2008-09, Southeast Seniors Block Nurse Program assisted isolated seniors in reducing junk mail, identifying household hazardous waste, enlisting family members to properly dispose of it, and switching to non-toxic household products. 52 seniors and 15 home health aides attended action-oriented workshops. 12,500 homes received a newsletter with waste reduction, junk mail, and household cleaner tips.
