Riverview Terrace Mobile Home Park/ Christmas in May
575 residents live at this mobile home park in Chaska. Large amounts of garbage and improper disposal of household hazardous waste are serious problems. This project engaged youth at the park as “green ambassadors,” providing a positive youth leadership activity. Seventy residents participated in a kick-off event and 20 participated in field trips to learn about waste issues. A recycling center was set up and the amount of recycled materials collected increased from one yard of recyclables before the program to 12 yards monthly. A recycling container for used oil and oil filters was also added to the park’s recycling center and is being used regularly by residents. The program activities were ended half way through the year due to lack of staff time to focus on the project.
