PRISM (People Responding in Social Ministry)
PRISM worked with the Armstrong High School Environmental Society to build several 3-D and 2-D displays on junk mail, “no waste” holidays, and toxicity reduction, so that visitors to PRISM would be introduced to these ideas. 50 families completed junk mail postcards on site. An additional 200 families visiting the PRISM food shelf received a “Non-Toxic Home Cleaning Kit” with the low cost ingredients necessary to create non-toxic home cleaners. 5,000 families received PRISM’s “opt-out” junk mail reduction insert in the April newsletter, plus a toxicity reduction insert in the September newsletter. The inserts were also available on Express buses that provide free rides to seniors for appointments and errands. The junk mail insert was also sent to 577 Express riders as a separate mailing. Three church congregations that partner with PRISM included waste reduction information in their newsletters. Cable Channel 12 featured the toxicity reduction project in a program.
