Longfellow Community Council
Longfellow Community Council worked with Hennepin County to create a mini-curriculum and comprehensive list of less-toxic or non-toxic alternatives to common household projects. LCC disseminated information to residents and businesses about toxic products, their proper disposal, and alternatives at a workshop, street festival, block club meetings, National Night Out, and in the community newspaper. 20 residents attended a workshop, 10 block club leaders took information to distribute to their neighbors, and LCC worked with five local businesses to offer and promote less toxic products and created coupons that residents could use to purchase such products at these businesses. An article about the project appeared in the Longfellow/Nokomis Messenger, with a circulation of 21,000. Coupons for discounts on less-toxic products were distributed at the 2003 StreetFest.
