Hale, Page, Diamond Lake Neighborhood Association
HPDL Neighborhood Association included an environmental theme tent at the HPDL annual summer carnival featuring information on junk mail reduction, composting kitchen waste, reuse, proper disposal of household hazardous waste, and less toxic cleaning products. 500 residents stopped at the information booth during the festival. Junk mail information was also shared with 90 residents at three additional community events. 186 people completed junk mail reduction forms through this project.
Waste reduction information was included in the neighborhood newsletter sent to 4,400 people. Messages were also sent to 200 people via email and 200 brochures were included in new neighbor welcome packets.
The environmental education booth created for this project will be set up at neighborhood festivals and community meetings into the future, sustained by the HPDL environmental committee. HPDL plans to involve 1,000 households in junk mail reduction in the next five years through their on-going efforts.
