Confederation of Somali in Minnesota
Two part-time Somali staff and 42 Somali volunteers were trained in waste and toxicity reduction. They produced materials in Somali on waste reduction. They made 47 home visits to show Somali families in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood how to reduce waste and toxicity in the home. They held 54 workshops engaging 435 people, many of whom came repeatedly to the workshops to discuss how their new cleaning strategies were working. It is estimated that 8,000 Somalis heard about the project through flyers, home visits, and media used to promote the project.
