Eighty-five students from Withrow and Afton-Lakeland Elementary School engaged in a yearlong waste reduction unit. This culminated in the students preparing displays, creating skits, and presenting a lesson to 90 area senior citizens to teach them how to reduce junk mail. In addition, over 100 students from Withrow and Oak Park Elementary schools learned about household hazardous waste and less toxic cleaners. They completed a survey of their household’s usage of cleaning products, tested various recipes, made 120 bottles of Alice’s Wonder Spray, and prepared and presented to 31 seniors on non-toxic cleaners. The projects were featured prominently in several local Stillwater newspapers.
