Community Design Center of Minnesota
25 youth on St. Paul’s East Side were given hands-on training in how to grow herbs, flowers, and produce using non-toxic growing methods, and how to present this information to the community. These youth and staff then conducted 11 demonstrations attended by 200 people on these methods. The youth also helped distribute literature to 700 households on the East Side and to customers at two farmers’ markets. An article on non-toxic gardening appeared in two East Side newspapers with a combined circulation of over 25,000. Staff created information in English and Hmong to share with Hmong growers at farmers markets about the benefits of non-toxic gardening.
