Alliance for Sustainability
The Alliance worked with local community groups to build trees made out of junk mail, display the 'junk mail" trees in public spaces, and provide educational information to the tree builders and passers-by regarding how to get off junk mail lists and reduce waste. A "Junk Mail Tree Kit" was designed to help local groups design their own trees. The kit includes diagrams and instructions on how to construct and display a tree, and educational materials to teach others to reduce waste. Volunteer groups such as college students, synagogues, and youth groups built six trees. Trees were displayed in six prominent locations such as conferences, Living Green Expo, Minneapolis Convention Center, etc. The tree at the Hennepin County Government Center was featured on KSTP morning news. Alliance for Sustainability staff made educational presentations reaching 10,914 individuals at Natural Step seminars, conferences, college classes, churches and synagogues. 1,400 people receive the Alliance e-newsletter containing a monthly update on the Junk Mail Tree project.
