Community POWER Grant Program Discontinued

The Solid Waste Management Coordinating Board (SWMCB) is discontinuing its Community POWER (Partners On Waste Education & Reduction) Grant Program, an Environmental Education grant program that existed from 2002 to 2015. The Community POWER grant program will close at the end of Round 15. Grants for Round 15 were awarded in August 2015, with grant-related activities wrapping up in September 2016.

Community POWER provided grants in the amounts of $5,000 to $12,000 to nonprofits in Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington counties, to support organizations implementing waste and toxicity reduction projects. During its 13 years of investment, SWMCB distributed $2.1 million to 159 individual county and 40 multi-county grantees. More than one hundred community organizations actively engaged 110,000 residents, and more than 3 million people were reached with waste and toxicity reduction and recycling messages.

Thank you on behalf of the Community POWER program. We have valued your support and dedication. Rethink Recycling will remain available as a resource to you, otherwise each county involved in the SWMCB will continue to provide environmental education resources through its website and staff.

Please contact the county your organization is located in for more information about potential environmental grants or assistance available:
