New Life for Old Disks

Staff at Washington County collect CDs, videotapes, floppy disks and cassette tapes from in-house offices for recycling. These items are sent to GreenDisk for recycling where the media is first magnetically erased before the disks and CDs are disassembled. From the plastic and metal components, new disks and other goods are made. Tapes are de-labeled, cleaned, packaged and resold. From 2000 to 2005, the county recycled 2,546 pounds of media material.
