Aerosol Cans

Aerosol Cans
Empty and dry aerosol cans (no liquids or remaining pressure) are exempt from hazardous waste rules. To recycle empty cans, see Scrap Metal Processors & Redemption Centers. For proper disposal of aerosol cans which contain hazardous product or propellant, contact your county environmental office.

Those businesses that are not regulated as a Large Quantity Generator (LQG) or Small Quantity Generator (SQG) can take waste aerosol cans (including contents) to a Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) collection site.

Consider an Alternative

To reduce or eliminate aerosol can waste, consider purchasing products in bulk and using reusable or non-aerosol pump applicators. When applying paints, use a brush or consider a paint gun instead of aerosol cans, or consider electrostatic painting.
