The Company's facilities are state-of-the-art, its staff is top-notch and they are certified to produce International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) compliant heat treated wooden packaging for export. Packnet's success is a direct result of superior products, services, knowledge and know-how.
Packnet Reusables
The most common distribution package is designed for a one-time-use, throw-away application where cost reduction is achieved through the "minimum adequate" design concept. Companies today are now realizing a potential area for significant cost reduction that exists in the corporate and customer product distribution systems through the development of reusable transport packaging programs.
Packnet has extensive experience in analyzing the potential for utilizing a reusable transport packaging system and complete design capabilities to put the correct type of reusable system into place. As a packaging leader, Packnet takes pride in being a full service supplier of one-time-use and reusable packaging solutions.
Unique Reusable Wood Shipping Crate
Packnet worked closely with Beckman Coulter, Inc. to design and manufacture a unique reusable wood shipping crate for their new UniCelTMDxI 800 Access Immunoassay Analyzer, a highly sensitive and fragile medical instrument. Due to the size and fragility of the product, a wood crate was chosen for the greater protection wood would offer during transit.
The reusable crate is approximately 72" L x 44" W x 69" H and is manufactured from various materials including wood, metal, plastic and foam. A foam support assembly provides additional protection to the product inside the crate. The sheet metal and plywood ramp accommodate a very low caster profile on the UniCelTMDxI 800. One end of the crate is also a ramp. The orange skid mate cushions also provide shock and vibration protection during transit. The user-friendly design allows for easy loading and unloading of the UniCelTMDxI 800.
The UniCelTMDxI 800 is the diagnostics market's fastest random access immunoassay analyzer, and customers expect to receive their product in perfect condition. Beckman Coulter's customer base has limited receiving dock and waste disposal space. By supplying the UniCelTM DxI 800 in a returnable crate, Beckman Coulter eliminates their customers' cost of packaging disposal and frees up their customers' docks more quickly.
How the Reusable System Works
Crated UniCelTMDxI 800 instruments leave Beckman Coulter's facility in Chaska, Minnesota and are shipped to North American customers. Beckman Coulter sends out a pre-paid bill of lading with instructions on which specified transportation carrier to call for crate pick up. Empty crates are then returned "set up" or in an assembled form to Packnet for storage, inspection and repair. Packnet delivers empty crates back to Beckman Coulter on a just-in-time delivery schedule.
Impacts of the New Reusable System
Even with the return freight costs and an occasional repair that may be required, Beckman Coulter realized cost savings with the Packnet reusable crates, making great strides toward reducing packaging waste while delivering quality products in A+ condition!
