Give Your Old TV a Proper Retirement: Superbowl and Electronics

Posted February 4th, 2010 by Rethink Recycling

For many Americans, the Super Bowl is nothing less than a holiday.  For many of you, that means purchasing a new television--Americans bought 2.5 million TVs for the 2007 Super Bowl!

When you upgrade for the Super Bowl, don't banish your old TV to useless storage. If it works donate it.  If it doesn't, give it the retirement it deserves and recycle it!  Electronics recycling has never been easier or more important.  Most TVs and computers contain a cathode ray tube (CRT), which contains 2 to 8 pounds of lead.  Electronic products containing a CRT may not be placed in the garbage (Minnesota Statutes §115A.9565).
